Edinburgh Yarn Festival 2016

Back in March I was commissioned by Mica and Jo to cover the Edinburgh Yarn Festival; and what a colourtastic event it was! Although I also covered the event last year, each visit has been distinctive. And yet one thing that hasn’t changed is the ability for the festival to truly dominate your senses.

Wool Tribe Magazine 2016

In January I had the pleasure to work with Mica and Jo on the photography for their new Wool Tribe magazine. This magazine was to accompany their incredible event, The Edinburgh Yarn Festival, which runs each year in March at the Corn Exchange.

The Making of Wool Tribe

In January I had the pleasure to work with Mica and Jo on the photography for their new Wool Tribe magazine. This magazine was to accompany their incredible event, The Edinburgh Yarn Festival, which runs each year in March at the Corn Exchange.
Our photo location was Calton Hill in Edinburgh which provides excellent views to the surrounding city and this was especially important to show off to viewers who would be travelling from abroad in March to the Yarn Festival. What was at first a promising sunny Saturday morning soon became a windy, cold and overcast day however with Mica’s car full of knitwear we were fully equipped.

My brief was to photograph 6 pieces of knitwear on our lovely model Becky who is a enthusiastic knitter herself. The patterns for each piece are available in the final magazine which can be purchased here.

You can see some of my final images here.

I had a brilliant time photographing for the Edinburgh Yarn Festival this weekend. The festival took over the entire Corn Exchange for a whole weekend and excited the eyes of hundreds of enthusiastic craft peoples. I’m not going to lie, as someone who doesn’t actually knit myself, it was still incredibly exciting. If you have major OCD then seeing hundreds of buttons lined up perfectly and hundreds of balls of wool all in a gradiented rainbow colour is completely hypnotizing.
